I recently had my family's old VHS camcorder tapes converted to AVI format so I could re-cut them and hand them out during the holidays. As a tweenager I became familiar with the camera and started to adopt a more stylistic approach to home movies: the slow fade, the soft focus, and, of course, film titles. Not having iMovie at my disposal, I used a rudimentary desktop publishing program to print out film titles on our Okidtata flywheel and shot them directly.
Not a bad effort really. It's funny, I can look back at this and see my then future—art school, design coursework, the studio. That border is so trite though, and come on, centered type? With a Christmas tree? I have to remind myself I was working with limited tools. Nonetheless, I cringe.
